But more, much more than this, I did it their way. 
 
 
I learned all sorts of things although I know I'll never use them. 
The courses that I took were all required, I didn't choose them. 
You'll find that to survive it's best to act the doctrinaire way. 
And so I buckled down and did it their way.

I clipped my wings, and learned to crawl.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.

It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

Un incontro, pertanto, di grande spessore, dedicato all'esame approfondito
della "convenienza energetica ed economica" dello stoccaggio della CO2, un
progetto ambizioso su cui l'Unione Europea ha investito molto allo scopo di
rientrare nei parametri definiti dal protocollo di Kyoto per l'emissione in
atmosfera di questo gas, considerato il principale responsabile delle
variazioni osservate nell'effetto serra. La Giornata si propone anche di
introdurre ipotesi alternative che possano conseguire il medesimo obiettivo
(utilizzo dei gas refrigeranti di nuova generazione, utilizzo dell'idrogeno
come vettore emergente ed attenzione alla fonte energetica nucleare), e di
individuare nuovi percorsi fattibili di nuovi modelli di business.

New Chemical Element Discovered

 

The heaviest element known to science was recently discovered by investigators at a major U.S. research university. The element, tentatively named administratium, has no protons or electrons and thus has an atomic number of 0. However, it does have one neutron, 125 assistant neutrons, 75 vice neutrons and 111 assistant vice neutrons, which gives it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by a force that involves the continuous exchange of meson-like particles called morons. Since it has no electrons, administratium is inert. However, it can be detected chemically as it impedes every reaction it comes in contact with. According to the discoverers, a minute amount of administratium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would have normally occurred in less than a second. Administratium has a normal half-life of approximately three years, at which time it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which assistant neutrons, vice neutrons and assistant vice neutrons exchange places. Some studies have shown that the atomic mass actually increases after each reorganization. Research at other laboratories indicates that administratium occurs naturally in the atmosphere. It tends to concentrate at certain points such as government agencies, large corporations, and universities. It can usually be found in the newest, best appointed, and best maintained buildings. Scientists point out that administratium is known to be toxic at any level of concentration and can easily destroy any productive reaction where it is allowed to accumulate. Attempts are being made to determine how administratium can be controlled to prevent irreversible damage, but results to date are not promising.

This bit of humor was written by William DeBuvitz in April 1988 and appeared in the January 1989 issue of The Physics Teacher. William DeBuvitz is a physics professor at Middlesex County College in Edison, New Jersey (USA). He retired in June of 2000.

"La musica un ponte fra le culture": un anno fa...

...qualche passante, attraversando per caso la piazzetta del Teatro Masini, era rimasto davvero stupito dal livello della qualità artistica proposta, dalla forza espressiva che nasceva dalla contaminazione di artisti italiani e africani, dal "clima" di amicizia e fraternità che la musica diffondeva nell'aria.
